GUNMEN KILL EKITI STATE UNIVERSITY LECTURER IN BORNO

A lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Mr. Mohammed Sani, has been killed in Maiduguri by some persons yet to be identified.
Our correspondent learnt that Sani was killed at his residence on Monday.
The late lecturer was said to have travelled to the Law School campus in Abuja and was said to have decided to visit Borno State, his state of origin, when he was attacked and killed.
The lecturer was said to be pursuing his PhD programme and was almost completing it when the sad incident happened.
The circumstances surrounding his killing were still sketchy as at press time. Some of the students of the university claimed that Sani was killed by the Boko Haram sect but the group had not claimed responsibility for the killing.
Sani, who was said to have been posted to Ekiti State for the compulsory one year service by the National Youth Service Corps, was said to have spent more than a decade in the state.
He was a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law until he was killed.
He was a former Financial Secretary of the Academic Staff Union of Universities at EKSU, formerly known as UNAD.
The Deputy Registrar, Information, Mr. Olubunmi Ajibade, confirmed the killing to our correspondent on the telephone on Tuesday.
EKSU was thrown into mourning on Tuesday as the news of the gruesome killing of the lecturer filtered in.
Ajibade said, “This development has thrown the university community into mourning; we are all mourning him. Sani was a very good person. He was one of the persons we used to showcase that our university is open to all in term of employment. We have Hausa and Ibo working here and everybody is welcomed, provided you are qualified. We will sorely miss him.”
He said the Vice Chancellor. Prof. Oladipupo Aina, led other officials of the university to the residence of the deceased in Ado-Ekiti to commiserate with his family.
Also, a former Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities, Ilorin Zone, Prof. Eddy Olanipekun, described the late lecturer as a pleasant gentle man.
